In the fall of 2008 Doritos brought back 2 flavors from the dead and launched a integrated advertising campaign to target teens. They asked Goodby, Silverstein & Partners to produce a TV spot, an online experience and a series of print ads to promote the re-release of the flavors.
What they produced is something I consider to be one of the best integrated advertising campaigns.
Their Goal:
Create a terrifying interactive experience that would create a buzz.
Their Solution:
They created a TV spot, print ads and www.hotel626.com . They made it so that you could only visit the website during the hours of 6pm and 6am, forcing you to view the website at night.
Everything begins with you waking up in a hotel room. You’re trapped in a hellish hotel and the only way you can get out is to walk through the hotel and complete a series of tasks. Tasks like using your computers microphone to sing a demon baby to sleep. Your one salvation is a call on your actual cell phone that gives you real-time directions on how to get out of the hotel.
Your web cam takes pictures of you when you least expect it and shows it to you later as part of the serial killers collection. These photos can later be uploaded to facebook. Goodby, Silverstein & Partners also created a facebook app, with interesting ways for visitors to scare their friends.
Visitors to the site can opt in to automatically send tweets in real-time that explain what is happening to you.
Visit the site at: www.hotel626.com
The above is simply my opinion.
